GENERAL QUESTIONS ABOUT OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS

In some diseases, an Omega-3 deficiency may be suspected, and the course of the disease can be alleviated by taking Omega-3 fatty acids. Generally speaking, the Western diet is most often associated with Omega-3 deficiency. The direct signs are not very visible, as they are often already part of our daily lives and people have learnt to live with them (sleep problems, lack of attention and concentration, digestive problems, etc.). In addition, many autoimmune diseases can be caused by inadequate intake of Omega-3 fatty acids, even though no changes in the body have previously been observed.

A conservative approach is still recommended: eat plenty of fish such as mackerel, salmon or herring. However, as stated in the question "How much omega-3 is in fish?", to get enough omega-3 (2 g per day) you should eat 100 g of herring, 250 g of salmon or 1.5 kg of trout every day. Other sources of Omega-3 are flaxseed oil and other plants. However, marine-derived Omega-3 fatty acids (EPR/DHA) have more beneficial properties than plant-derived Omega-3 fatty acids (ALA). The human body can only convert a small fraction (0.5-10.0 %) of ALA into EPA and DHA, and the fatty acid ALA itself is not absorbed.

The amount of omega-3 in fish depends on the species. A 100g of herring contains about 2g of Omega-3. Herring is therefore a good natural source of Omega-3 fatty acids. Tuna, salmon and mackerel are also rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, although to get 2 g of Omega-3 you need to consume about 250 g of salmon. Other common fish species are relatively low in Omega-3. For example, 1.5 kg of trout is needed to get 2 g of Omega-3.

Yes, it is theoretically possible. However, you would have to consume large amounts of certain foods, so realistically it is only possible for a few people. To consume about 2 g of omega-3 fatty acids per day, the daily recommended intake by doctors, you would need to eat about 100 g of herring, 150 g of tuna, 250 g of salmon, 300 g of mackerel, 1.5 kg of trout or 3 kg of cod.

THOUGH SEAWEED OIL

Thanks to sustainable cultivation, the algae, including the algae oil, are not exposed to natural pollutants, heavy metals and PCBs from the world's oceans. Nevertheless, the algae oil is purified and tested during production.

The quality of algae oil is determined by the right choice of raw material, i.e. algae. Our vegan algae oil is based on the microalgae Schizochytrium sp. This type of algae is a marine microalgae and consists of microscopic single-celled algae. This species of algae originates from mangrove forests in the tropics. They feed exclusively on plant material such as dead leaves. What makes this algae special is that it produces two important marine Omega-3 fatty acids, DHA and EPR.

"Omega-3 Vegan is produced in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way. "The microalgae used in Omega-3 Vegan are not sourced from the sea. By growing them in large tanks with artificial seawater, we are conserving resources and preserving the nutritional base of the fish. Fish also get their Omega-3 content from eating algae, as they do not produce this fatty acid themselves. By farming the raw material in this way, we do not disturb the natural marine ecosystem, and fish and krill stocks are protected. We are aware of our responsibility to the sea and its inhabitants, which is why we support non-profit organisations that work to protect marine habitats.
